How it works

More than you knew to say. Nothing invented.

Cipher builds three things: a Career Record that surfaces everything you've actually done, a master resume that captures it all, and tailored resumes that make the strongest honest case for each role you apply to. No over-optimization. No inflation. Just the version of you that's been there all along, finally on the page.

Every example on this page comes from one sample record. Dana Whitfield is fictional.

01

The Career Record

A private interview that draws out what you actually did, not what you remembered to put on your resume. Your scope and scale. The problems you fixed quietly. The results you undersold. Employment gaps are noted, not penalized. If something happened during that time, Cipher asks about it. If nothing did, it stays a gap. No inflation either way. Everything Cipher surfaces comes from what you said and confirmed. Nothing is invented.

You said the team ran two people short for most of that year. What did a normal Tuesday look like while that was true?

This conversation is yours. Nothing from it reaches a resume unless you choose it.

02

The Master Resume

Every bullet in your master resume traces back to a specific moment in your Career Record: something you lived, something you can speak to in an interview. Confirmed by you. Not borrowed from a template. Not generated from a job description.

Your master resume holds everything. Nothing is dropped from it for want of a decision. Anything Cipher drafts, or pulls from a resume you upload, waits for your confirmation before it can reach a tailored resume.

  • Cut first-year turnover from 41% to 24% by pairing each new hire with a trained lead for their first two weeks

    Draft

Edit this bullet before confirming if the wording needs work.

  • Re-sequenced the pick route so the short shift stopped being the bottleneck; throughput recovered within a quarter without backfilling two open roles

You confirmed: throughput recovered within a quarter

03

Tailored resumes, built with you

Most tools take your resume and adjust it for a job description.

Cipher reads the job description and breaks it into what the role actually asks for. For each of those needs, it surfaces the evidence in your record that could answer it, and you choose what goes in. Cipher picks the certifications, awards, projects and publications that fit the role.

Then Cipher assembles a real resume, formatted and ordered, at the length you asked for. If what you chose runs long, Cipher combines related lines, then removes the weaker of two answers to the same requirement, never the only one. It never goes past three pages, and it tells you exactly what it removed. Want it back? Restore everything in one step. Cipher never invents a claim to fill a gap.

The difference is not that a tool optimized what you gave it. It's that you decided what to put in, against what the role actually needs, with your whole record in front of you.

Cipher reads. You confirm. Cipher composes.

Improve throughput without adding headcount

From the posting

improve throughput without adding headcount

If none of this evidence actually speaks to the need, you can mark it as a gap.

Re-sequenced the pick route so the short shift stopped being the bottleneck; throughput recovered within a quarter without backfilling two open roles

Cut cost per case shipped 11% in 2023 by using WMS labor reporting to rebalance pick zones weekly across three shifts

Moved put-away to a zone schedule, cutting dock-to-stock time from 36 hours to 20

04

Three fit scores

For each role you apply to, Cipher produces three honest scores.

Filter probability. Can a screen read your resume and find the right terms? Cipher accounts for parse integrity, hard knockout requirements, keyword coverage, and early-eye visibility. Based on documented applicant tracking system (ATS) vendor behavior, not mythology.

Shortlist strength. How strong a case does your resume make for this role? Writing quality, specificity of evidence, implied capabilities, and network proximity, all factored, all disclosed.

Career alignment. Should you even apply? This is the one no other tool asks. A strong resume doesn't matter if the role isn't actually one you'd want to be in eighteen months from now. A low score is information, not a failure. Cipher tells you why, so you decide whether to apply anyway or save the energy for a stronger fit.

Every factor in every score is documented in the methodology. Open a score's full report to see the reasons and evidence behind it.

Filter probability

Can a screen read your resume and find the right terms?

Partial fit

This resume carries most of what this role's screen looks for, with room to make the match clearer.

Shortlist strength

How a hiring manager will read it.

Significant gaps

A hiring manager needs more to move you forward.

Career alignment

A reading of you and the direction you've set, not of this resume.

Strong fit

This role aligns well with the direction you've set for yourself.

05

The cover letter advisor

Cipher does not write your cover letter. That's a deliberate choice. For every role you score, Cipher surfaces the specific Career Record passages most relevant to what the posting is actually asking for, with a note on why each one belongs in your letter. You write the letter. Cipher makes sure you don't forget the part that would have made it memorable.

One column, read in order.

A parser, a search and a person all read a Cipher resume the same way: top to bottom, one column, standard section headings, no tables or graphics that break parsing.
